Forest of Reading

Have you heard about the Forest of Reading? It’s one of our favourite times of year because we get to read and celebrate books written and illustrated by Canadian creators!

This year, we’re asking the community to let us know which Forest of Reading nominated book is their favourite, write the title on a leaf, and we’ll add it to the trees we have at each location! It’s been so great watching the trees grow as we visit classrooms around the city and learn which books the young readers in the city are loving!

We’re also having a big celebration in May once the winners are announced. Mark your calendars for Sunday, May 26 and visit us at either Stamford Centre or Community Centre at 1pm for lots of Forest of Reading fun.

The Forest of Reading consists of ten programs distinguished by age group and reading level, each with ten nominated titles, selected by committees of library practitioners. The English school-aged programs are Blue Spruce, Silver Birch, Yellow Cedar, Red Maple, and White Pine. French school-aged literature is celebrated through the Peuplier, Mélèze, and Tamarac programs. The Forest of Reading has an adult program, Evergreen, which celebrates excellence in Canadian literature as a book club.

The Forest of Reading Festival, an event where you can watch the award ceremonies, attend workshops by nominees, get autographs from your favourite authors, and hang out with other book lovers. This year's event is taking place on May 14 and 15 in Toronto. For more information, visit: forestofreading.com/festival-schedule
