Niagara Falls From The Canadian Side
Father Hennepin was the first European to record seeing the Falls in 1678 and inspired many others to come see the majesty of the Falls for themselves which continues to this day.
Ice Mountain Niagara Falls
The ice bridge formed when ice fell over the falls, (12 - 30m thick / 40 - 100 ft). Since 1964, ice booms in Lake Erie stop this from happening.
Maid of the Mist Landing and Steel Arch Bridge
The original Maid of the Mist was used for ferry service across the river in 1846. In 1854 a Maid of the Mist was built for tours and customers were lent oil skin coats and caps for the voyage.
Pergola at Oake's Garden Theatre
Harry Oakes, donated valuable land that had formerly been occupied by the Clifton and Lafayette Hotels to the Niagara Parks Commission. The beautiful open air amphitheatre opened in 1937.
Stamford Centre Branch
The Stamford Library was opened in 1957. When Stamford Township and the City of Niagara Falls merged in 1963, the library became a Niagara Falls Public Library branch. It relocated in 1974.
Ships in a Lock on the Welland Canal
A water route between the two Great Lakes was desired, and in 1824, William Hamilton Merritt started construction of the first Welland Canal, which has undergone many expansions and is still used now.
Inside the Base of the Skylon Tower
In 1964 the Skylon Tower opened and at the time it was the tallest reinforced concrete structure of its kind in the world, at 775 feet above the Niagara River.
