Creator Space

The Sir Harry Oakes Room, formerly housing the Local History collection, has been transformed into a versatile Creator Space.

Using the Space

Our Creator Space is free to use with your Niagara Falls library card. If you are comfortable with the equipment we have for you to use, you are welcome to book the space to use on your own.

Please note, that if you have questions about the equipment, staff may not be able to assist you.

If you're new to the equipment in the Creator Space or need some extra help, book an appointment so a staff member can assist you.

Drop-In times!

Looking to explore the room and ask our staff a couple of basic questions about the equipment? Come by during our drop in hours where a staff member is always present. More than one customer is allowed in during the drop in hours.

Wednesdays 12 pm - 2 pm
Fridays 9 am - 11 am

Digitization

Our Digitization Station consists of a Windows PC, ClearClick 3.0 Video2Digital Converter, ClearClick Virtuoso 2.0 Slide & Film Negative Scanner age, and Epson FastFoto 680W photo and document scanner that provides the ability to digitize:

  • Print images and photographs
  • Slides as well as colour and black & white negatives on 110, 126, and 135mm cartridges
  • Audio cassettes, CDs, and DVDs.
  • Vinyl records
  • VHS and VHS-C
  • Betamax
  • Hi8
  • 8mm and Super8 film

Textile Arts

Clothing design? Costume ideas? Repairs? T-shirts for your trivia team? We have what you need to tackle any DIY fabric project. Tools and machines include:

Audio & Video Recording

We have a media production workstation centered around an M2 Mac Mini and a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 audio interface to handle all connection needs, as well as the following software:

Audio Recording Hardware

Akai MPK Mini MkIII
Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit

Available hardware includes: studio monitors, vocal microphones (3 Shure MV7X podcasting and vocal microphones and an AudioTechnica AT2035), an electric guitar and amp, an acoustic guitar, assorted smaller instruments, music stands, and tablet mounts, along with:

  • Akai MPK Mini MkIII (MIDI controller with keys, pads, DAW control)
  • Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit (e-drums)
  • Yamaha R-115 (digital piano with hammer-action keys and MIDI-out)

Video recording tools include: a Canon Vixia HF G20 (video camera), a tripod, directional lighting, and a wall-height greenscreen.

Graphic Arts and 3D Design

We have a second editing workstation with a 27” Apple iMac and a Wacom Cintiq 16 drawing tablet and pen, and the following software:

We have tools and supplies for making 3”, 2 ¼”, and 1” pin-back buttons.
