Forest of Reading is in full swing at Niagara Falls Public Library

The Forest of Reading is Canada’s largest recreational reading program that celebrates Canadian books, publishers, authors and illustrators.

This year, Niagara Falls Public Library is participating by encouraging customers to stop by all four of our locations and share what Forest of Reading nominees they’ve read and enjoyed. Then, they can add their votes to our painted trees.

As always, we have lots of great programs running on weekends for all ages to join in on.

Visit the Chippawa Willoughby Memorial Arena for our Taking Kids Fishing program. Parents and caregivers can learn how to create unforgettable outings, and get prepared with essential tips on tackle, bait, safety and optimal fishing spots.

Plus, learn about our Tackle Share program, ensuring everyone has the gear they need for an unforgettable day of angling fun. This program will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m.

We’re also looking forward to our drop-in all-ages Dragons Love Tacos Party program, running on April 13, at 1 p.m. at our Victoria Avenue library. Join us for a funny story time adventure complete with a taco craft and dragon activities.

We are thrilled to be participating in National Film Day again this year. Join us at our Stamford Centre library on Thursday, April 18, at 2 p.m. to watch the Canadian film “Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe.”

Mr. Dressup was an enduring childhood fixture, promoting the power of creativity, play and imagination. This heartwarming documentary traces the roots of this universally celebrated and uniquely Canadian children’s program, its enduring legacy, and how it stayed true to its aim throughout its run of almost 30 years.

Overwhelmed with your kids’ toys? Tired of tripping on them and not having a good system to keep them organized and under control? Decluttering expert Lori Hulett will walk you through how to declutter the toys and keep these systems in place. Attend this decluttering program on Monday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. at our Victoria Avenue library.

We are excited to have author Dan Smeenk visit the library to speak about his book, “Autistic Adults: Exploring the Forgotten End of the Spectrum.” Join us for a reading, conversation, Q-and-A and a book signing on Monday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. at our Victoria Avenue library.

One Book, One Niagara is back. Now in its sophomore year, OBON continues to build community throughout Niagara through a shared reading experience. This year we’re reading “In the Upper Country” by Kai Thomas ahead of his visit on Tuesday, April 23. Details can be found on OBON’s website.
